Weekly Newsletter – October 25, 2024
Dear Parents,
The newsletter is coming out early due to the short week due to Parent/Teacher conferences.
Parent/Teacher Conferences- You should receive an invitation to Parent/Teacher Conferences on October 24th. We are looking forward to seeing you Thursday. If you are curious about how best to prepare for the conference, please read the article to help.
Parent/teacher conferences are one way we continue to work cooperatively towards the mission of the school:
St. Mary’s mission is to provide a Catholic environment that instills academic excellence while preparing the whole child for life-long personal and spiritual growth, empowering them to become global citizens.
We are excited to be having parent/teacher conferences. We are looking forward to the opportunity to strengthen the partnership between school and home to the benefit of the children.
Altar Serving – One of the most special things about St. Mary’s is our community. The church supports the school, the school supports the foodbank, the church supports the foodbank and the school supports the church. It is one interconnected community that grows and thrives with each other’s support.
As of today, the church needs the school’s help. We have students graciously offering to be altar servers at the 5:00 pm Saturday and 8:30 Sunday morning Mass. We are looking for a student or two that would be willing to serve at the 10:45 Mass.
The time spent serving can count towards the students’ service learning hours as well as family’s volunteer hours. If you are interested, please contact the front office or Mr. Jaszkowiak at jjaszkow@gmail.com
The Day of the Dead – Dia de los Muertos is approaching soon and we would like to continue with the tradition of remembering our loved ones who have already died.
For those who are new to St. Mary’s, Dia de los Muertos is an ancient Mesoamerican, mostly Mexican, old tradition that honors our family and friends that have died. We celebrate the 1st and 2nd of November that is also related to our Catholic traditions of “All Saints day” and “All souls day”.
We set up an Altar at church and we decorate with typical decorations full of meaning such as the marigolds, candles, water, food, images of Christ, the Virgin, kids’ art and pictures of the people that have died. We dedicate this Altar to them, it’s a special place for us to pray for them and with them celebrate the life and love that they shared with us.
If you want your kids to participate please send a copy of a picture of some members of your family or friends that have died, so they can dedicate this day to them. Since we will be setting up the Altar at Church, you are more than welcome to visit it with your kids.
Please send the copy of the pictures before October 28.
