Dear Families,
September is over. Wow… October is a month full of events and activities. Please be sure to review the school calendar. Some highlights to pay attention to:
- October 4 – Picture Day
- October 6 – Teacher Inservice – No School
- October 20 – Cornhole Tournament – Fundraiser
- October 26/27 – Parent Teacher Conferences – Early Release and No School
Before we get to October, September was an outstanding month. The first full month of school has been great. There is always room to get better, but I cannot speak highly enough about the teachers, students, and the families. A few items from the end of September:
- Family Survey – Creating the right atmosphere is important to St. Mary’s. Please take a moment to complete this 3 question, anonymous Family Survey evaluating the school’s Climate and Culture. The survey will be open until Monday, October 2nd.
- Grades 2 through 8 complete our Fall MAP testing this week. Twice a year we complete tests in Reading, Language Usage, Math and Science. MAP tests are not standardized tests. They are progressive in nature. The purpose of using MAP is not to measure achievement, but to track our students for growth in the areas above from year to year and season to season. This is an article explaining MAP testing. We will send student reports home shortly.
- At Mass on Wednesday we recognized our Christian Leaders – Learners. For the month of September we were focused on being learners. Each day at Prayer Square we have been talking about the attributes of a learner including curiosity, perseverance, hard work, and risk taking. The following students best demonstrated the attributes of a Learner:
- Kindergarten – Ethan Huffstodt
- First – Peter Zeigler
- Second – Edwin Arredondo
- Third – Joseph Zeigler
- Fourth – Liv Allen
- Fifth – Alex Martinez
- Sixth – Maddie Gerard
- Seventh – Megan O’Coyne
- Eighth – Ethan Stroup
- Faculty – Hillary Cooke
- I was invited to interview on Salt & Light radio on Monday morning. It was a great chance to talk about the school community and the great things we are doing. In addition to the broadcast, they also have a Youtube channel. My segment begins at 43:50 .
Thank you again for all your support and encouragement. God bless.
